The 1996 Brigham Young Cougars football team represented the Brigham Young University in the 1996 NCAA Division I-A football season. BYU was able to play 15 games because of NCAA rules that are no longer in place. First off you were able to play in week one and not have it count against your game total, then they played at Hawaii which didn't count against your total, next they played a conference championship game and a bowl game in the Cotton Bowl Classic with 11 other regular season games bringing the total to 15 games.
